This was one of the funnest shirt designs I worked on in the recently. Lots of characters and insider jokes.
It was for the shirt.woot derby #97 BBQ and you can check out the progression images below for my work process (click on 'em to zoom in). Pretty simple, started with a basic perspective grid then sketched out the scene. After that I went through the characters and did the line work for the design, I knew I wanted to put it on a light shirt so dark lines weren't going to be a problem.
After that I pick a shirt color, pick my palette and then color in the bulk of the characters and then put the finishing highlights at the end. I do wish I had more color (Woot restricts you to 6) but that's always the case for me.
